Photographer, stylist, artist and author, Heather Ross is known for her wonderful sense of color, keen eye & evocative imagery. Her editorial work as a photographer, stylist and writer has been featured in design and lifestyle publications and nominated for numerous National Magazine Awards.
Heather grew up exploring the coastlines and forests in beautiful Vancouver, BC. She has a fine art & design background in painting, printmaking, ceramics & textiles.
As a young entrepreneur Heather handprinted a poetic line of linens & accessories which sold in fine home decor stores across Canada. She then spent two years living in Paris working as a textile designer. It was during this time Heather discovered her source for fabulous finds in the antique brocante markets of France.
Upon her return home in 1996 Heather’s eye as a photographer was noted by an art director. She began shooting professionally, bringing all of her creative experience, design sense and travels together in the stories she began producing for design & lifestyle magazines. She is a regular contributor to publications such as House & Home & Western Living. In 2001 she opened her own boutique & gallery in the art & antiques district of South Granville, Vancouver. She loves to use natural found objects in her charming displays and is drawn to simple organic forms & authentic materials.
Her paintings, while abstracted, draw upon the elements of earth, water, air & sky, marking our connections to the seasons, the ephemeral qualities of time & place, and ultimately to our sense of belonging in the world.
She continues to travel regularly on buying trips and assignments, always seeking beauty along her way. She loves to write, garden, cook, and to search for treasures not just in flea markets, but also along the shorelines and forest floors.
Her much awaited first book, the natural eclectic: a design aesthetic inspired by nature, is scheduled for release early spring 2016.
